Job Description

Nielsen Madsen + Barber, a long-established civil engineering and land surveying firm located in southeastern Wisconsin has an immediate opening for an experienced Civil Engineer to focus on land development projects.

The candidate selected for this position will enjoy working at a professional firm with over 71 years of history and will have the opportunity to utilize his/her engineering, organizational, and project management skills on a wide variety of commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects.

The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with surveyors, designers, developers, and municipal officials. The ideal candidate will have five plus (5+) years of experience and possess a current State of Wisconsin (WI) or State of Illinois (IL) Professional Engineering (PE) license.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with surveyors, architects, wetland delineators, and other such design team members.
• Create conceptual layouts that balance client needs, site conditions, and municipal requirements.
• Assess land topography, soils, flood risks, and environmental concerns.
• Review designs to ensure they need zoning, building, and environmental codes.
• Develop grading, drainage, erosion control, roadway, pavement, stormwater management, water distribution, and sewer collection plans.
• Apply for and manage permits from state, local, and federal agencies.
• Create plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in civil engineering.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in civil engineering.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, WinSLAMM, HydroCAD, and other such trade software.
• Experience with land development, stormwater management, and project permitting.
• Experience with grading, drainage, pavement, and erosion control plan design / development.
• Experienced with water distribution / sewer collection systems.
• Possess organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects / tasks.
• Ability to work in project teams and communicate effectively.
• Enjoy the challenge of working on diverse projects that contribute to building strong client relationships / communities.

Ideal Candidate:

• Possess a State of WI or IL Professional Engineering (PE) License.
• Has five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in civil engineering.

The wage being offered is commensurate with experience ($80,000 - $115,000).
